Summer Gardens and Flowers
06/19/13 5:30PM - 7:30PMEarn your Flowers and Gardener badges while exploring Sarah’s Garden, a 1872 garden restoration, with experts from the U of I Master Gardeners of McLean County and the David Davis Mansion Foundation. In the Gardener Badge workshop, learn about the history, design, and flowers grown in Sarah’s Garden and experiment with the use of soil, water, and sunlight in growing plants. Make a mini-fairy garden to take home. In the Flowers Badge workshop, you’ll become a botanist on a flower hunt. Learn how flowers were used to heal illnesses in earlier times and create a special Tussie Mussie that you can take home.
Who: Girls entering grades 4-5

In advance of the class, learn more about Judge David Davis, his wife Sarah, and their friendship with Abraham Lincoln at www.daviddavismansion.org. Wear clothes to work in the garden and bring a water bottle and camera. Girls must attend with a troop leader or parent.
