Girl Scouting is made possible through dedicated contributions of adults who enjoy helping girls develop knowledge and skills for the future. Adults in Girl Scouting, both volunteer and employed staff, play an important role in helping girls enjoy exciting benefits of Girl Scouting. By sharing their time, knowledge and skills at all levels of the Girl Scout program, Adult Girl Scouts positively impact the Girl Scout organization and the community around them.
We want to make sure our adult volunteers get the recognition they deserve. Adult volunteers can be recognized with our Formal Awards or with Informal Recognitions.
Formal awards are to recognize exemplary service and significant contributions. Informal recognitions are best for honoring or recognizing annual service, good performance and longevity.
All Girl Scout volunteers, staff, girl members and/or their families can submit a nomination.
Note to service units: It is helpful if you designate a contact person in your service unit and instruct volunteers and families to include that person’s name on the nomination application under the “designated contact person” field.
The Appreciation Pin, Honor Pin and Thanks Badges are given at the Girl Scouts of Central Illinois’ annual meeting. In addition, the nominator and/or recipients may also choose to present the awards at a local event. All other awards are mentioned and recognized at the annual meeting and have the option to receive the awards at local events or via mail.
Girl Scouts of Central Illinois’ awards review committee reviews nominations for the Appreciation Pin, Honor Pin, and Thanks badges once per year. Submit nominations by February 15, 2013 for service completed in the previous program year (October 1, 2011 – September 30, 2012). Nominations for all other adult awards are accepted year round.
The Volunteer of Excellence award is the only award available to be given in the current program year.
Years of Service Pins are awarded in five year increments. When you R.S.V.P. for the Annual Meeting you are asked to provide your years of service to Girl Scouting. If you are in attendance you are awarded with your Years of Service Pin. If you are not in attendance, you may purchase your Years of Service Pin from any of our GSCI Trefoil Boutiques.
You may find nomination forms, endorsement questionnaires and specific award information on our Adult Recognitions page.
Girl Scouts of Central Illinois now provides a writeable pdf endorsement questionnaire specific to each award. It provides a question and answer format designed to help nominators and endorsers best describe the volunteers’ service.
There is a proper way to display recognitions. Please see Adult Girl Scout Insignia Placement.
