Learning Opportunities

First Aid, CPR, and AED

At least one registered adult per troop must be a current first-aider. A qualified first-aider is an adult who has taken council-approved First Aid and CPR or is a healthcare professional (consult Safety-Wise for full list). While each region has different local resources available, the courses the council offers are either American Red Cross of American Heart Association.

Online Learning Option

Participants who have already taken the American Heart Association’s Heartsaver CPR/AED and First Aid course may have the option to renew it online. First, make an appointment to attend a skill competency check to complete the course on one of the two dates offered by calling the instructor, Denise Poland, at Methodist Medical Center 309-672-4216. After registering for the skill check, log into an online course and use your own credit card to pay for Part ONE of the course. At the end of the course, print the certificate of completion. Bring to the appointment your certificate of completion of part one and a copy of your CURRENT Card along with a check for $10 made payable to GSCI.  Click here for more information.

Participants who have already taken American Red Cross Community First Aid and CPR courses may renew through two online courses with the additional skills checks scheduled through the American Red Cross.  Click here for more information.

In-Person Learning Option

The standard fee for any GSCI sponsored First Aid/CPR course is $30. Participants should bring a sack lunch to all-day Saturday classes.
