Troop Camp Activities

Troops can get away together and sleep in cabins, platform tents, or lodges at any of our seven program sites. Being outdoors and camping with your troop is an important part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

Outdoor activities allow girls to discover their strengths and build new skills while engaging with the natural world.  Whether they're identifying winter wildlife tracks, creating nature-inspired sculptures, organizing a recycling project, or trying their hand at sailing, girls come to see the earth as their home.

This fosters in girls a sense of caring, conservation, and responsibility to ensure the safety of our planet for future generations.

Camp Sister Troop and Camp Hosts

GSCI is proud to announce that we have developed two new projects that provide services to troops camping at our sites. We have gathered a list of volunteers that are willing to show new troops what our camps have to offer and teach them basic outdoor skills.

Camp Sister Troop

A list of volunteers and their troops that know our specific camps. These volunteers/troops are on the referral list published for new troops who want to camp at our sites that may feel uneasy and need a 'mentor' troop to show them around camp.

Camp Hosts

Camp Hosts is modeled after the Boy Scouts (Camp Master)--provides a list of volunteers contact information for each of the sites. Camp Hosts will provide basic hosting services to troops that come camping for the weekend. Also if there are volunteers who specialize in certain areas such as outdoor cooking, hiking, canoeing/boating, team’s course, archery, etc… they can facilitate these for the troops while they are there for the weekend.

Once you register for troop camping for a specific date you may contact one the leaders that have knowledge of a particular camp to see if they are available to come out that weekend to assist you. To make a reservation contact the Springfield Service Center at 877/231-1446 or email siterental@girlscouts-gsci.org to check availability of dates for the site you are requesting. Have back-up dates in mind in case your preferred date/location is unavailable.

If you are interested in these services or would like to provide any of these services to other troops, please call or email your information to Amanda Atchley (309) 688-8671 ext. 1403 or aatchley@girlscouts-gsci.org and what specifically you would like to take part in. We will provide you with volunteer contact information based on the camp location and the outdoor skills you would like your troop to participate.

We look forward to assisting you and your troop with these services.
