Camp Traditions
Magical Characters and Meals with Imagination
Within their schedule at camp, campers get to enjoy the magic that exists only at resident camp with traditional camp activities. For example, wild walks happen when our beloved camp fairies get kidnapped and we must become camouflaged and go on a scavenger hunt to find them! Creativity and chaos often finds its way to the dinning halls. From challenge meals that will leave you tied to your neighbor, to opera meals where you’ll sing everything you say, you never know what excitement awaits you at meal time. At least once a week there is a shipwreck at Camp Peairs when Captain Hook’s pirate ship crashes into the dining hall, making a very pirate-like mess out of lunch. And Camp Tapawingo campers have a challenge to face at lunch on Thursdays as they have to work together through a series of challenging western skills such as mining for gold and learning to lasso!
Camp Kapers
Kapers are chores girls share while attending camp. Each staff member will model and teach campers proper ways to care for the environment and their camp surroundings. Each unit is responsible for the upkeep and cleaning of their area, and for additional daily camp responsibilities. This may include cleaning the dining hall, latrines, bathhouse, grounds, etc. Girls are closely monitored to make sure that established health and safety procedures are used in completing cleaning tasks.
Camp is an exciting place for girls to enjoy a well-rounded Girl Scout experience. Girls will learn new things and grow strong in any session they choose to attend. Day camp allows girls a safe environment to learn new games, make arts and crafts, practice outdoor cooking skills, develop environmental awareness, and most of all - have fun with new friends and play in the water. Day camp is the perfect starter camp for girls who want to get comfortable in the outdoors and who are interested in exploring new activities close to home.
