volunteer opportunities

The Girl Scout organization is powered by caring adult volunteers, who donate their time and talents to make a positive influence on girls’ lives.  It is easy to volunteer.  Give an hour, a week or a year – every moment makes a difference.  There are many different opportunities or pathways in which to volunteer.  No matter the pathway and volunteer position that you chose, Girl Scouts of Central Illinois will strive to make the volunteer experience as easy as possible with adult learning/mentoring, leader resources, and council publications, in order to help make your experience a memorable one.

We are looking for volunteers who represent our community’s diversity:  women, men, college students, working or retired professionals, stay-at-home parents, young adults, senior citizens, and people of all racial and ethnic backgrounds.  Are you ready to make a difference?

Flexible and Fun
Girl Scouts of Central Illinois offers many flexible ways for adults to volunteer in Girl Scouts. We have wonderful volunteer opportunities to serve directly or indirectly, for adult women and men to contribute to helping build girls of courage, confidence, and character who will make the world a better place.

Pathways Makes Participating Easy
With the development of Girl Scout Pathways – the ways that girls and adults participate in Girl Scouting – there are now several flexible ways for adults like you to get involved by simply matching your expertise, skills, interests, and life experience to the volunteer opportunities available.  As a volunteer you can work directly with girls through any of the six pathways for girls.

Choose one, two or more of these volunteer opportunities:

Troop
Are you interested in working with girls on an ongoing basis?  Lead or co-lead a small group of girls.  Help them plan activities, do service projects and go on field trips.  A troop volunteer must be able to commit a school year or more.

Series
Do you have a special interest you want to share?  Lead a small group of girls through a shared passion, skill set or existing curriculum.  You might work with girls as they explore career options, learn about financial literacy, or participate in the arts.  A series volunteer must be able to commit to 6 weeks.

Travel
Explore the world while empowering girls to develop leadership skills.  Help guide girls in planning, earning money, and preparing for local, national and international trips.  Take a group of girls traveling.  Whether it is across town or the world, the adventure will stay with you and the girls forever.

Camp
Do you love the great outdoors?  Volunteers are needed to help troops plan and participate in overnights, plan and lead day camps in various communities, and help at the GSCI camps with numerous outdoor adventures.

Events
GSCI has numerous events each year – from major fundraisers to girl-focused celebrations.  You can volunteer for a day, join a committee or just give a few hours of your time. Take a look at the council calendar to get an idea of the opportunities.

Virtual
Girl Scouts is moving into cyberspace, giving girls even more opportunities to learn and grow.  Is this your passion?  Volunteer to help girls make the most of the online world!
