Volunteers

Volunteers are the heart and soul of the Girl Scout organization. We believe our volunteers have come to a special organization – one that changes the lives of girls across the nation and throughout the world. Volunteers contribute their valuable time and talent, and we recognize and appreciate the excellent work that they are doing at every level.

For more than 100 years, Girl Scouts of the USA made a commitment to helping girls learn about themselves and the world around them. Today we continue that tradition through our mission to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place.

Girl Scout volunteers comprise a diverse group of women and men whose expertise, skills, interests, life experience, and availability match a diverse array of volunteer opportunities. Volunteers work collectively with each other, Girl Scout staff members, and families to nurture each girl's individuality and leadership qualities.

We offer volunteers several exciting, flexible pathways through which to participate. Whether volunteers choose to work directly or indirectly with girls, on a short-term or long-term basis, they receive the instruction, guidance, and support they need to fulfill the responsibilities of their volunteer role successfully as they guide girls through the new Girl Scout Leadership Experience.

Although many parents and caretakers of Girl Scouts get involved with Girl Scouting, we are also fortunate to have a large number of non-traditional volunteers such as college students, busy professionals (including those with no children), and retirees.

If you would like to become a Girl Scout volunteer but cannot commit to a regular schedule, you can choose a pathway that allows you to fit Girl Scouting into your lifestyle, whether it is once a month, weekends, evenings, or at a particular time of year.

Join us today – without volunteers, there would be no Girl Scouting!
